kitchen table love--Homemade Kitchen Table

OUR country kitchen table.

I want to share with you one of my favorite things.

 My OUR kitchen table.

 We built it ourselves.

Well, mostly my handy man...

...but I helped.

There are 7 of us in our blended family and we needed a table that would fit us all so we built one. I'm an incurable do-it-yourself-er (well, I'm the dreamer-upper and my hubby is the do-it-almost-all-by-himself-er).

 Here's a basic how to:
We HE started by screwing together a basic rectangle out of 1x4's.  Then he secured 1x1's to the top 1x6's. Then he secured the rectangle to the top also.

I took pictures and handed him stuff...

We HE then secured the 4x4 legs to the rectangle "lip".

I thought it would save soooooo much money and compared to a full retail large dining room table it totally did, but compared to a thrift store or yard sale find, um...... not so much.

We spent about $200 on this table, but that included everything.  Some of you might already have paint, screws, sand paper, chalk line, chalk (which we didn't even use) etc., so it wouldn't cost that much for just lumber.

After sanding, and sanding, and sanding I put a couple of coats of white paint on right on the kitchen floor.

Like my drop cloth?

  Ready for service. :)

Thank you wonderful hubby for making me US this lovely table. :)
