It's a kitchen show down.
My hubby and I are hittin' the sauce.
Apple sauce that is...
We were given apples by some nice people that my hubby met at his job. How lucky are we?! Pretty darn...

Anyway, it's obvious we are going to bottle them...(what else does she do?).
We had a cook off...
His sauce, versus mine.
Mine:

The judges, ages 13, 9, and 6 all thought my apple sauce was delicious! It is so pretty in pink. It is sooooo tasty.
His:
corer, peeler, slicer |
cooked down |
He likes it chunky... |
Then they went into lemon water so they don't go brown. ^^^ Ya, don't want them to go brown...^^^
Then, they cooked. And cooked. And cooked. Then the hubs added sugar, cinnamon and what else I don't know. Then, he went to mash them with a potato masher. I don't know about the rest of you, but if you don't have one of the old metal kind like I grew up with, it ain't gonna mash. The plastic masher didn't do squat. I got out my handy dandy food processor and we processed them into a nice chunky consistency.
The judges tasted. The hubs won.
Hands down, if apple sauce tastes like the apple pie your grandma made, it wins. How can it not?! It is delish!
I'm a fan of warm sauce and when his is warm, it is enough to bring a tear to your eye.
I'm kinda tired of him winning all the time. *sigh*
I guess I win in the long run for having a hubby that cooks, bottles and makes the best chunky, cinnamony apple sauce around.
We've bottled several pints and quarts of sauce, dehydrated 3 batches and bottled sliced apples in a sugar syrup. We still have 1 1/2 boxes left. Any apple ideas?
Anyone?
Anyone?
Okay, I'll figure it out...;)
Make them into apple butter. I have Grandma Rose's receipe ask your mom if she doesn't have it I made momma tell me 40 years ago. I'll share
