max mix--guest post

Do I have a treat for you.

A friend--an ollllllllllddddd friend from the good ole high school days, is guest posting for me today.

AUNTIE CARLA'S "MAGIC" CARROTS!

2lbs steamed & drained petite carrots (NOT mushy!)
1 medium green bell pepper (diced fine)
1 medium onion (diced fine)
1 can tomato soup (condensed)

1 cup sugar
1/2 cup vegetable oil
3/4 cup apple cider vinegar
1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
1 tsp mustard
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp pepper

Instructions:
Combine the hot, steamed carrots
into the bowl of other ingredients.
 Mix. Let cool.

Let's be completely honest. First, nobody is
really a fan of a dish whose main ingredient

is "carrots"--unless it comes in a cake.
Second, this dish isn't particularly pretty.
 That said, there's a reason they're called
 "MAGIC."
My amazing Auntie Carla introduced me to
this recipe years ago. I remember watching
her prepare it and thinking, "Oh my he[ck],
that looks disgusting!" However, the smell
of the marinade was so tangy, my mouth
watered regardless of my picky nature.
When she offered me a spoonful of those
tiny carrots, mixed with the onions and
peppers (neither of which I was fond of),
I'd braced myself to chew and swallow as
quickly as possible--hoping she'd be looking
away so I could regurgitate the stuff into a
nearby vase of dry potted plants.
But it tasted "alright." It was sharp: sour and
sweet and mildly crunchy. Hmph! Then
something strange happened. Ten seconds
passed and I was absentmindedly scooping
 up another spoonful...it was done
subconsciously. I had no idea I'd grabbed
the spoon and dove into the bowl! It literally
was a GREEN EGGS AND HAM moment.
She filled a couple of old pint mason jars for
me to take to my brothers, told me she loved
me, then politely shoved me out the door.
Trust me, I had every intention of taking the
jars to my brothers--after all, it was a good
excuse to visit them. But in route to my first
brother's house, I found myself opening one
of the jars and pulling out carrots to eat...it
was a dangerous maneuver, but I simply
couldn't help myself. You know when you go
grocery shopping when you're hungry--you're going down the side aisle ready to check out and you say, "Ah, what the he[ck], I'll just grab a couple donuts!"? Then you find yourself eating the last one as you pull into your driveway. Yeah. It was totally like that, but with Carla's Carrots
If you don't like them, you must be immune to enchantments...probably any magic, for that matter. Even so, if you know me, you know you should try this, because I don't lie.
(At least when it comes to food.)

Happy eating,
Maxwell

Well I don't know about you, but I want to try them.
