I can't believe it's butter

So before the hubby left for AK we were going to make butter, for fun, but the cream got lost and forgotten about in the fridge.

I saw the cream and got it out and started making butter and then realized that the expiration date was today's date.  Phew!  Nick of time baby!  Nick. Of. Time.

I have a Tupperware thingy that I've used before to make butter and it was working just fine...

cream, Tupperware thingy, salt

... but then I got an idea...

Why do it by hand when we have this cool thing called electricity and a Bosch mixer?!

I can't believe it's butter

We've got butter!

Basic Butter Instructions:

It took about 10 minutes to make butter in this electric Bosch. I imagine this would work in a food processor too, you just couldn't make as much at a time.

Add salt to taste if desired.  About 1/4 teaspoon per half quart.

Once the butter is formed, put it in bowl and continue to mash the rest of the liquid out of it with a strong flat object.  Like the back of a wooden spoon. (I broke a rubber spatula on this step.)

Go ahead, give it a try.

(For kid involvement, do the by hand method.  Once it went into the electric mixer, they lost interest until the end result.)

No artificial colors or flavors.

mmmmmmm, butter.

Now to look into one of these babies!

Off to make homemade buttermilk pancakes with homemade butter on top.  Doesn't get much better than that. :)
